Principal's Message
Welcome and Thanks for visiting our Website!
On behalf of the faculty, staff, and students of BCES, it is my pleasure to welcome you to Brush Creek Elementary School! We are excited about the year ahead and look forward to many successful and engaging learning experiences. Our Vision at BCES is to create a positive learning environment that stimulates curiosity and imagination, creates citizens of good character, and challenges students to become life-long learners. It is our Mission to Develop Leaders and Life-Long Learners! Our 2024-25 Motto is "We use our Bear Essentials: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be of Good Character!" We welcome you to our family!
Brush Creek Elementary serves approximately 380 students in kindergarten through 5th grade. I am honored and blessed to serve the students, staff, and communities of Brush Creek. Our school has been among the top across the state based on EOG data. Our data shows that our Kindergartners enter school below state averages and leave as competent 5th graders! That is due to the hard work of our students, the expertise of our teaching staff, and the dedication of the BCES school community!
I discovered this wonderful county in 2008 when I started working at Hot Springs as a first-grade teacher. When I began, I had my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from East Carolina University that I received in 2001, and I obtained my National Board Certification in 2007. Since that time, I have received my Graduate Degree in Elementary Education from Western Carolina University in 2010 and added an Administrative License in 2019 from Gardner Webb University. During my years with Madison County Schools, I have taught first, second, third, and fifth grades. I have had many opportunities to serve as a leader at my schools and also at the district level. This will be my 4th year serving as a principal and my 24th year in education. I am so thankful for the opportunity!
Our campus is located close to downtown Marshall. Our beautiful campus is one of the best assets of our school! We have the most kind, caring, dedicated, professional staff members serving your children. Our focus is on educating the whole child. We place an important emphasis on good nutrition, sleep patterns and exercise to help our Bears grow their brains and attend to the challenges they face. We know them, love them, and grow them!
This year our school has been designated a CEP School-this means ALL our students will receive FREE breakfast and lunch for an entire year! Students also have free nutritious snacks available anytime they are hungry. We know they cannot learn unless they are full, rested and in a structured, safe environment.
We hope that you get involved in the activities of our school and we look forward to working with you! Please visit our Office if you would like to volunteer or join our PTO. We have a fantastic base of Community Volunteers that serve our Bears in a variety of capacities. Our PTO is student and teacher-driven and supports our school physically, emotionally AND financially! We are thankful for all our parents, guardians, families, and community members that are such an important part of our school!
Please feel free to email me (jennmills@madisonk12.net), call, or stop by the school. At the beginning of each month, I will send out The Bears Growl newsletter with school highlights and information. All-Calls are done updating school events. If you would like to receive our All-Calls, please contact our office. Visit our Facebook page-Brush Creek Bears-- to stay in touch with events and activities taking place at our school.
Again, thanks for visiting!
